Valais Blacknose Sheep

Frodo

"The One Who Started It All"

Frodo is the original. He came to Valais Hideaway as a lamb, and it didn't take long for him to realize that sheep had a starring role to play in this story. Born with the breed's signature black face and woolly white body, Frodo has the look of a tiny cloud who wandered into an inkwell — and he knows it. He is gentle, observant, and possessed of an emotional intelligence that most humans would envy. When the other animals are stressed, they look to Frodo. When the humans are sad, Frodo is somehow already there. He is the quiet center around which the whole farm rotates.

Frodo arrived at Valais Hideaway as a tiny lamb — the first Valais Blacknose ever to call the farm home. The owner had been researching heritage livestock breeds, trying to find the right animals to anchor a farm that had a story at its center. When she found the Valais Blacknose breed, she knew immediately. These sheep weren't just animals — they were characters. Frodo was named with love (and a nod to a very famous ring-bearer), and from his earliest days he showed the personality that would define him: calm, curious, and completely himself. As he grew, so did the stories people told about him. Those stories became the Frodo & Friends book series. Frodo doesn't know he's famous. He just knows he's loved.

Emotional

Frodo seems to sense how people are feeling before they do. Stressed visitor? He's already at the fence.

Patient

He will wait. For chin scratches, for treats, for you to figure out what you're doing. He has all the time in the world.

Gentle

The gentlest animal on the farm. Never pushy, never demanding. He asks for what he wants and then waits.

Curious

Everything is worth investigating. New people, new objects, new sounds — Frodo must know.
